Dementia Action Week - 18th-24th May: Hearing Loss & Dementia What’s The Link?

Most people think hearing loss only affects the ears however research shows it can also impact brain health.

Studies have found that untreated hearing loss is linked to a higher risk of cognitive decline and dementia. This is believed to happen because the brain has to work harder to process sound, while reduced communication and social isolation can also affect mental wellbeing and stimulation.

One of the biggest studies in this area — the ACHIEVE study published in The Lancet (2023) — found that older adults at higher risk of dementia who used hearing aids experienced up to 50% slower rate of cognitive decline compared to those who didn’t wear hearing aids.

While hearing aids are not a cure or guaranteed prevention for dementia, evidence increasingly shows that treating hearing loss may help support long-term brain health.

At Feel Clear Hearing, we believe hearing care should be personal, proactive and focused on helping people stay connected, confident and engaged in everyday life.

If you or a loved one have noticed changes in hearing, early action can make a real difference.
